ChatGPT ads management

Reach customers while they are asking ChatGPT what to buy

People increasingly work out what to buy by asking ChatGPT, and far fewer businesses advertise there than on Google. We set your campaigns up, write ads that suit a conversation, and measure what they actually produce.

Why ChatGPT ads

Why advertise on ChatGPT

It reaches people at a point in the decision no other channel gets to, and it is early enough that very few of your competitors are there.

People ask before they search

Someone planning a kitchen, a move or any big job now asks ChatGPT what is involved, what it should cost and what to watch for. That happens before the search your Google ads are waiting for.

Far less competition

OpenAI reported tens of thousands of advertisers in August 2026, a fraction of the number competing for attention on Google. The businesses learning it now are doing so while the auction is still quiet.

Your ad sits where the decision is

Ads appear directly under the answer someone has just read, while the question is still in front of them. They are labelled as sponsored and kept separate from the answer itself.

Checked 20 September 2026

Where ChatGPT ads stand today

OpenAI changes how these ads work often, so this section carries the date we last checked it against their own documentation. Ads run in the UK, the US and more than 50 other countries. Here is where things stand.

What an ad looks like

A logo, a short headline, an image and a link, shown below ChatGPT's answer and labelled as sponsored. Advertisers cannot change the answer above it.

Who sees them

People on the free and Go plans, aged 18 and over. That is where most ChatGPT use happens. People paying for Plus, Pro or Business plans do not see ads.

How they get matched

To the conversation, not to keywords someone typed. You write hints about the conversations you want to appear in, and ChatGPT decides where your ad fits.

What it costs

You bid per click or per thousand times your ad is shown. The daily minimum is small, £15 a day on UK accounts. No benchmark costs have been published yet.

What you can measure

A tracking code for your website, and a direct feed for enquiries that happen off it. Results are credited to the last click, and OpenAI reports on its own performance, which is why we measure it a second way.

Who cannot advertise

Outside the US, financial, health and legal services are generally not allowed. In the US they are. Gambling, alcohol, tobacco, dating and political ads are out everywhere.

What is included

What is included in ChatGPT ads management

The Ads Manager is open to anyone with a card and a small daily budget. What changes is everything that happens after launch.

Campaign build and targeting

There are no keywords to bid on. We write the conversation hints from the questions your customers actually ask, split into groups so we can see which ones produce enquiries and which just spend.

Ad copy written for a conversation

You get one 50-character headline and one 100-character description. Hard-sell lines that work in search results fall flat mid-conversation, so we write them fresh rather than recycling your search ads.

Tracking that matches your other channels

The tracking code goes in through your tag manager and respects your cookie banner. Calls and form enquiries feed back directly, counted the same way as Google and Meta so the numbers can be compared.

A landing page that answers their question

Someone arriving from ChatGPT is often still weighing up options. The landing page picks up where the conversation left off, instead of shouting an offer at somebody who is still deciding.

Reporting in plain English

Every month: what we changed, what it cost, what came of it, and whether we think you should keep going. No dashboards you have to interpret yourself.

Your account, your data

The ad account, the tracking and the history stay in your name. If we stop working together, nothing has to be rebuilt and nothing walks out of the door with us.

Measurement

How you will know whether it worked

ChatGPT reports on its own performance, and it credits whichever click came last. No independent body checks those numbers yet, and there is no report telling you which conversations your ad appeared in. So we measure it a second way, against a number you already trust.

  • One enquiry count, taken from your records, instead of three platforms each claiming the same lead.
  • Measured against what an enquiry already costs you elsewhere, so there is a benchmark even though the platform does not publish one.
  • We ask new enquirers where they found you, because people research in one place and buy in another.
  • If your total enquiries do not move, we say so, and tell you where we think the money should go instead.
Who it is for

Which businesses ChatGPT ads suit

ChatGPT ads are not open to everyone, and they do not make sense for everyone who is allowed to run them. This is how we decide.

Worth testing if

  • People research what you sell before they buy, and the decision takes more than a few minutes.
  • You sell something OpenAI allows: home and local services, trades, travel, education or products.
  • You already advertise somewhere, so there is a cost per enquiry to measure this against.
  • You can track enquiries properly, including phone calls.
  • You can leave a test running long enough to judge it fairly.

Not yet if

  • You sell financial, health or legal services outside the US, which OpenAI generally does not allow.
  • Your Google Ads is not working yet, or you are not advertising at all. Search is the bigger and more proven channel, so we would start there.
  • You need more enquiries this month.
  • Your customers are mostly business users on paid ChatGPT plans, who never see ads.

If the answer is no, we will say so on the first call and point you at what will actually move the needle. We would rather turn down the work than take a budget into a channel that cannot carry it.

The process

Your first 90 days

Most of the work happens in the first three weeks. After that it is weekly management, and a straight answer at day 90.

  1. Week 1

    Readiness check

We check your category against OpenAI's rules, what your tracking can measure, and what an enquiry costs you today. You get a yes, a not yet, or a no. Free either way.

  2. Week 2

    Tracking first

Tracking goes in and gets tested before anything spends, with your cookie consent handled properly. If we cannot measure it, we do not launch it.

  3. Week 3

    Build and launch

Conversation groups, ad copy and the landing page go live together, on a budget you set. Everything is reviewed with you before a penny goes out.

  4. Ongoing

    Weekly management

We cut what is not producing, move budget to what is, and keep an eye on your total enquiries rather than just this channel's numbers.

  5. Day 90

    A straight answer

Enough has happened to judge it. You get our recommendation in writing: keep going, change the approach, or stop and put the money somewhere better.

FAQ

Common questions about ChatGPT ads

Are ChatGPT ads available now?

Yes. Ads run in the UK, the US and more than 50 other countries, and businesses can buy them directly from OpenAI. They reach people on the free and Go plans who are 18 or over. Anyone paying for Plus, Pro or Business does not see ads.

Can my business advertise on ChatGPT?

Most can. Outside the US, OpenAI generally does not allow ads for financial, health or legal services. Gambling, alcohol, tobacco, dating and political ads are not allowed anywhere. The rules change regularly, so we check your category against them before anything goes live.

Why use an agency when I could run it myself?

You could. The Ads Manager is open to anyone with a card and a small daily budget. What we add is the category check before you spend, tracking that lines up with your other channels, copy written for a conversation rather than a search result, and a view on when to stop. If you would rather run it in house, we will still tell you how we would approach it on the call.

Do ads change what ChatGPT recommends?

No. OpenAI says ads are kept separate from the answers, that advertisers cannot influence them, and that nobody advertising sees your customers’ conversations. Getting your business mentioned in the answers themselves is a different job, and a separate service we are launching. Ask us about it on the call.

What about ads in Google’s AI answers and Microsoft Copilot?

Your Google campaigns can already appear around AI answers, and Microsoft Ads campaigns show inside Copilot automatically. We run both, so we can tell you where your money is best spent across all of them rather than selling you the newest one.

What if it does not work?

Then we tell you to stop, and you keep the ad account, the tracking and everything we have built. There is no minimum term. We would rather lose the ChatGPT work and keep your trust.

"ChatGPT ads are new, and plenty of the businesses we speak to should not be running them yet. We would rather tell you that than take the work."
